About LIVECLIC

Sustainable Adaptation of Livestock Production to Climate Change is a project that is part of the horizontal Erasums+ Programme. LIVECLIC is related to the environment and efforts to mitigate against climate change. Training for specific professionals, such as farmers and members of cooperative associations and for food business operators can contribute to addressing climate change and its consequences.  Food consumers also need training in order to change their habits related to their choices. In addition to this newly emerged strategies and priorities, at the EU and international level, create the necessity for the development of training courses adapted to these. LIVECLIC aims to develop training courses for the aforementioned target groups in order to raise their awareness of the necessity of planning for sustainable growth. In addition to this, LIVECLIC aims to strengthen the competences of specific professionals in the agri-food sector, thus making them critical actors for change in promoting specific EU Green Deal strategies, as well as to promote the exchange of best practices among the partner countries. Competences will be related mainly to sustainable farming, a circular economy, and a green supply chain, thus contributing to the sustainable adaptation of livestock production and its supply chain to Climate Change (CC). Targeted professionals are farmers in the field of animal production, members of cooperative associations, food business operators, and professionals in the field of storage, transport and logistics. Consumer organizations are also a target group as the project aims to enable behavioural changes for individual preferences, and changes in consumption habits and lifestyles including aspects such as reduction of food waste.

Main Objective

LIVECLIC's main objective is the design and development of training courses related to the sustainable adaptation of Livestock production to Climate Change. This objective aims to educate all the involved stakeholders of the sector who will contribute to the development of environmentally friendly and sustainable agriculture that will be readily absorbed by the labour market as well as consumers that would have the possibility to change habits and lifestyles by choosing a healthier and greener diet and by being familiar with practices for reducing food waste. The educative results could be useful for the whole society in terms of a more sustainable way of farming, production, consuming and living.

The basic thematic categories developed will be

- Climate change and animal production,

- Circular economy / green supply chain in the agro-food sector,

- Locally adapted breeds and climate change

- Social impact of climate change on the livestock production

- Mitigation measures towards Climate Change

Three specific objectives will be incorporated:

- To develop training courses adapted to the needs of partner countries, EU strategies and priorities as well as each partner country’s best practices related to the sustainable adaptation of livestock production to Climate Change. The aim of this specific objective is the cooperation, and the sharing of experiences and knowledge, which will result in more effective and cost-efficient actions and programs towards the training of farmers, retail sellers, scientists etc., in ensuring the sustainability of the livestock production chain. Education is a significant factor in the struggle against CC and the latter should be integrated into the vocational training as a matter of urgency. In a highly globalized world, sustainable results can be produced through cooperation, since one country’s policy for agriculture directly affects its neighbouring countries, and Europe as a whole. In addition, different implemented farming systems reflect also different needs and different approaches in regard to climate change policy framework.

- To validate training courses through pilot training. Pilot training will be realized in selected partner countries as live training and workshops with simultaneous live broadcasting for specific participants (such as farmers in mountain areas or small islands). The audience will consist of target groups associated with each thematic category.

- To raise the visibility of the developed courses. Dissemination and sharing activities will be selected on the basis of the more effective ways to create optimum impact for the interested parties.
